Peter's Story
As told by his parents
Our
son, Peter, always struggled in school. Various school-testing revealed that he
had attention issues and an I.Q. well over 140. We refused to put him on
medication. While still struggling with regular school work, he was put in a
"gifted program." We were told by teachers that he was lazy. We sent him to
Huntingdon Learning Center after school when he was in second and third grade.
Our struggles continued. This went on for years until we had Peter privately
tested at two separate locations. As a result of the private testing, we
learned that, in addition to ADD, Peter was dyslexic. He was a junior in high
school. My cousin, a Ph.D. who is dyslexic and has ADD, recommended medication
and The Total Learning Center in Cranberry, Pennsylvania. Peter was again
tested at the Total Learning Center and enrolled in a program that lasted about
five-six months. In hindsight, I realize that their approach is to teach
clients to compensate for dyslexia and ADD (which included medication) rather
than actually change the condition.
We feel that Divine Intervention led us to see a 20/20 program segment on
Wynford Dore and DORE Achievement Center. We contacted several "professionals"
who tried to discourage our interest in the DORE Program. Thank heaven we
followed our instincts!
We have seen truly remarkable changes in our son. His handwriting is legible.
The most wonderful change that we see is in his self-esteem. He is currently a
college sophomore, and for the first time in his life believes he can attain
his goals. It's a wonderful change that we never thought was possible.
