Max, in his own words
Max's Story - Treating A.D.D.
Once
a little boy was having trouble in school. No matter how hard he tried to do
well, he never managed to receive any grades higher than a "C." In the
beginning, his parents thought that he was being a silly boy in school and that
he would eventually grow out of it. However, as he got older, his parents
became angrier and angrier at his poor performances. The boy felt terrible and
cried himself to sleep on many occasions. By the time the boy was 12-years-old,
he became depressed and his parents took him to see a doctor. The doctor
diagnosed the boy with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and explained to him
and his parents that he was not capable of focusing on anything at school. The
doctor gave the boy medicine to help him concentrate on his work. The medicine
helped for a little while, but would eventually loose effectiveness and they
would try him on a different one. When the boy reached the tenth grade, his
mother learned about an alternative, experimental, drug-free program designed
to help people with ADD. Desperate, the mother took her son to the clinic to
enroll him at The DORE Center. Four months later, the boy received his first
grade report with a 3.0 average. If you have not already guessed, I am that
boy. I have been enrolled in the DORE Program since August and I can honestly
say, it has transformed my life.
The difference between the DORE method and using drugs to treat ADD is very
simple. When using ADD drugs, the patient introduces a chemical into their
brain that helps them stay focused and concentrate. They are only able to focus
when the drugs are in their system, and will need to take more and more as
their body adjusts to them. This approach really only takes care of the
symptoms of ADD. It does not cure anything. The DORE method actually changes
the person's brain forever. Because neural pathways are developed in their
brain, the person has the ability to store and remember information. Those
neural pathways will never go away. In fact, they will only continue to grow
and become stronger as the person continues to learn new things throughout
their life. It is really sad to know that all the people who take medicine
everyday to help them get by, are missing the point completely. The DORE
Program, with its philosophy of creating neural pathways in the brain, it is
method of repetitive exercises and it's permanent, life-long results, is
clearly the best approach to helping and curing people who have ADD.
