Jackie's Story

As told by her mother, Phyllis

JackieMy daughter, Jackie, has a very energized and likeable personality. Jackie's passion is to make up stories. Jackie dreams to someday write these stories on paper; however, she has always struggled with writing and spelling— not to mention she had a problem with reading, excessive daydreaming, immaturity, and poor memory. I came across information about the DORE Achievement Center, which has made a difference in Jackie's life in as little as 13 weeks.

We started the program during Christmas break. By Spring break...

  • Jackie's memory is improving. Her studying time is shorter and she is able to retain what she is learning for a longer amount— therefore, bringing home better grades.
  • Jackie is daydreaming & talking less. Because her ADD medication is not Jackie's system first thing in the morning, my mornings used to consist of lots of yelling for her to get dressed, wash up, and eat. Now, for the most part, she gets ready on her own and is actually quiet long enough to finish her breakfast.
  • Jackie is reading and confidence is improving. Jackie is volunteering to read in her classroom. Prior to the DORE program Jackie struggled with reading words and her sentences did not flow. As we have only been in the DORE program a few months, I am excited to see these changes in her reading.
  • Doing homework is improving. Jackie is no longer interrupting her homework with conversations of "Did I tell you this or that?" I still have to help her with her reading assignments; however, I do not have sit next to her during math and remind her to stop daydreaming.

No More Medication

During school breaks, Jackie is always taken off her ADD medication. One day at the beginning of her spring break Jackie's grandmother looked at me and said, "I thought Jackie was off her medication." This was the moment for me to sit back and do some comparison of Jackie's Christmas break versus this Spring break. This is when I realized how mature Jackie has been become. Prior to the DORE Achievement Center, Jackie would tell me how she would drive her friends and teachers crazy when she did not have her medication.

Although we have only been in the DORE program for a short time, I am excited to see these results and I am looking forward to the results I will see upon Jackie's graduation. Soon I am confident Jackie will be able to write her stories.

Note to Wynford Dore & the DORE Achievement Staff: Thank you for sharing your studies, results, and program. It is truly exciting to see these positive changes in my daughter and to read other success stories.
