Anglesey & Gwynedd Local Education Authority Study
An Independent Study
STUDY TARGETS SEVERELY DYSLEXIC STUDENTS

Thirteen students from the Anglesey
and Gwynedd Local Education Authority participated in a two-year study
beginning in 2003. Each student was considered to be a severe dyslexic and each
had responded poorly to traditional teaching methods.
Tests included English and Welsh literacy, and were taken at the beginning of
the study and again after one year.
ASTONISHING RESULTS— Substantial Reading Improvements Shown
Twelve months after the DORE Program was started, results of the study showed:
-
Collectively, the group of students showed a 400% improvement in reading skills
compared to their previous rate of progress. (One student improved his
individual score by 700%!)
-
Per student, this translated to a 140% improvement over and above fellow
students considered to be in a "normal" learning group.
SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS MADE IN SPELLING
Experts say dyslexics are often very poor spellers and normally don't improve,
even with intense training programs. Students in the test group showed a
200% improvement in spelling
PARENTS PRAISE DORE
In a survey conducted by the Local Education Authority, parents of these
severely dyslexic students reported improvements in the majority of areas
studied, especially in their children's reading and confidence levels. 100%
said they would recommend the DORE Program to others.
