Comorbidity of Learning Disorders

It is becoming increasing clear that the symptoms of learning difficulties (reading difficulty, spelling difficulty, slow learner, poor concentration, poor writing, poor coordination, low confidence, low self esteem) may be linked to one single cause, cerebellum brain under functioning. Traditionally these were often described as dyslexia, dyspraxia, add, and adhd.

Research by Dore show that dyslexic, dyspraxic, add and adhd symptoms are comorbid or occur together. The cerebellum brain has been shown to be under functioning in dyslexics which leads to poor skill development causing poor reading difficulty, poor spelling and slow learning. The cerebellum has also been shown to be affected in add and adhd where symptoms of poor concentration, poor attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity are the common symptoms. Dyspraxia is associated with common symptoms seen in those with cerebellum disorders with clumsiness, poor writing, poor memory, difficulty with running, catching and throwing. The disorders themselves lead to low self esteem and low confidence.

The disorders of dyslexia, dyspraxia, add and adhd are dealt with differently with dyslexics being given reading exercises and intensive teaching, add and adhd are treated with drugs and dyspraxia is treated with special exercises to teach skills. Different specialists have different approaches to treat the symptoms. At Dore we treat the root cause of dyslexic, dyspraxic and add, adhd symptoms. Special brain exercises help to improve the cerebellar function and therefore improve the reading difficulty, spelling difficulty, writing difficulty, attention problem, clumsiness and slow learner symptoms by stimulating the cerebellum. Even symptoms of poor or low self esteem and low confidence have been shown to improve. Therefore all the symptoms of dyslexia, dyspraxia, add and adhd start to improve without specific reading, writing or spelling exercises and without the use of specific drug treatments.

At Dore we see all dyslexic, dyspraxic, add, and adhd symptoms improving with the exercises used. Learning disorders improve and learning difficulties subside. The response to teaching improves so that learning speed increases. Once cerebellum brain function returns to normal those with labels of dyslexia, dyspraxia, add and adhd all start to improve. Special dyslexia exercises, dyspraxia exercises, adhd exercises and add exercises are used throughout the program to stimulate the brain function. Behavioral difficulties improve, self esteem improves, confidence lifts, and mood changes. So Dore treatment is equally successful for treating all the common symptoms of dyslexia, dyspraxia, add and adhd. Poor reading, poor writing, poor spelling, attention problems, clumsiness, memory difficulties and learning all improve. There is no need for other specific reading exercises or other dyslexia treatment, dyspraxia treatment or adhd treatments. Reading exercises can help to catch up lost ground. Learning new skills will require practice but learning improves at a greater rate than before the Dore program. Many reduce the add and adhd medications once they have used the Dore program.

People taking medications for add and adhd can still stay on their medication whilst on the Dore program but many will reduce their add and adhd medication or stop completely by the end. Most mild dyslexics seem to lose their dyslexia symptoms completely while more severe dyslexia symptoms will reduce to borderline levels. In research many will catch up with reading progress. Confidence will improve and self esteem improves at any age.
